Civil Engineering MSc. ETHZ

Davide graduated from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) as a civil engineer in January 2018. His studies are focused on structures and materials science.
During the studies, he gained practical experience working for a semester as structural engineer at the ZPF.Ingenieure office, where he had the opportunity to work on projects with high architecture quality. He could also deepen his knowledge on concrete by working for a semester as scientific researcher in the concrete department at EMPA, where he was involved in the composition of different mix design and in shrinkage/cracks-related issues.
In his master’s thesis - “Topological Exploration in High-Rise Design” - Davide tried to approach high-rise design from a topological prospective. The topological exploration of the design space was supported by digital tools, as Combinatorial Equilibrium Modelling and Self Organizing Maps.

Davide is currently a PhD student at the Chair of Structural Design at the ETH in Zurich. His research focuses on possible applications of theory of plasticity and graphic statics on timber structures and timber joints, and their implementation on digital fabrication. The research is part of the NCCR Digital Fabrication research project called “Spatial Timber Assemblies”.

He is also teaching assistant in several courses given by Prof. Joseph Schwartz and Prof. Philippe Block in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
