Mario Rinke supervises the research at the chair.

Since 2011 he is lecturer at the architecture department and since 2009 at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. His research interest comprises the relationship of construction material and construction technique as well as referencing in construction methods in building history.
He studied structural engineering at the Bauhaus University Weimar. After working as a structural design engineer in London in 2007 he was scientific assistent at the chair of structural design at the ETH Zurich and finished his PhD on the development of trusses in the 18th and 19th century in 2013. 2014-2015 he was with structural engineering office Dr. Lüchinger + Meyer Bauingenieure AG in Zurich. He is a founding member and current board member of the International Association of Structures and Architecture and published numerous publications on the relationship of architecture, construction and building history, two among these are the interdisciplinary anthologies „Holz: Stoff oder Form Transformation einer Konstruktionslogik“ and "Before Steel: The introduction of structural iron and its consequences" edited by Mario Rinke and Joseph Schwartz.
Mario Rinke is giving two courses on the history of structural design: Force Material Form and Negotiating Structural Forms, alternating in spring and autumn.
