Form suchen – Struktur finden
Tracing strategies of experimental structure designers

This seminar week offers students an introduction to intuitive, experimental and structure-oriented design, by means of a theoretical and practical engagement with innovative, contemporary designs of structures.

The program of the seminar week is divided in two parts: during three days, tours of selected buildings, such as the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Bad Cannstatt, the Trumpf-Areal in Ditzingen and the Killesberg Tower in Stuttgart, will be conducted in and around Stuttgart. The tours will be supplemented by visits to the offices of Werner Sobek as well as Schlaich, Bergermann and Partner. The seminar week will be complemented by a two-day experimental project, carried out in small groups. Under the direction of Professor Schwartz and his assistants, structures are to be designed based on physical models. Hence, students will be able to retrace the relationships between form and static behaviour.

The seminar week starts on Monday 19th October 2008 and ends on 24th October 2008. The number of participants is limited to a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15. The costs of the seminar week will constitute CHF 250.- at most, including the 3-day journey to Stuttgart, travel expenses including accommodation for two nights, course material and the equipment required for the experimental project.
